Low-Risk Machining for
Complex Productions

Sinker Electrical Discharge Machining (EDM) is a subtractive manufacturing technology that creates parts with high accuracy via spark erosion. Spark erosion refers to the creation of cavities in metal workpieces with electrodes.

In sinker EDM (also called ram EDM, cavity type EDM, or volume EDM), the electrode sinks into a workpiece’s raw, electrically conductive material. They are submerged in insulating liquids like oil and dielectric fluid and connected to a suitable power supply.

A series of sparks between the electrode and workpiece, called EDM pulses, removes material from the workpiece until a desired shape is formed. The liquid then cools the final product safely and flushes out the eroded particles.
